Company profil

The company operates on 1614 ha of fishponds of which 1241 ha are owned and 373 ha are hired. Ponds are situated in 6 districts – most of them in the Břeclav and Znojmo regions. The other regions are Brno-City, Brno-Vicinity, Vyškov and Blansko.

In view of favourable climatic and soil conditions, the company belongs among the leading Czech fish producers. This year harvest of marketable fish will reach about 1200 kg. The company provides farming of all stocking fish categories. Stocks of these fish will amount to 2.5 million cap fry, 800 000 two-year-old carp and 400 000 older (three-year-old) fish.

Besides carp, which represents about 85 % of total production, silver carp, bighead carp, grass carp, tench, zander, wels and pike are cultured. Also ide, koi carp, crucian carp, asp, roach and rudd are raised in a lesser extent. The effort of the company is focused on further expansion of rheophilous fish farming - barbel, stone loach, nase and minnow, which mostly belong to the protected species.

In the own hatchery, company produces about 20 million common carp sac fry, 10 million herbivorous fish (grass carp, silver carp and bighead carp) sac fry, 500 000 wels fry, 5 million zander eggs and 500 000 pike sac fry.

Pond fertilisation has not been performed in recent years since the inflow water contains sufficient nutrient concentration (sometimes even in surplus). Only approximately 100 kg of lime fertilisers have been spent per hectare for water quality administration.

Fish are fed predominantly with cereals – wheat, triticale, barley and rye. Part of feeds (approx. 5 %) is supplied in the form of complete pelleted mixtures. Feeds for supplementary fish are imported as special mixtures from abroad.

Fish health is under permanent control. Fish growth and performance are monitored biweekly and/or three times during the growing season in nursery and growing ponds respectively.

Besides fish production, the company is involved also in fish marketing. Three storage pond facilities (Velký Dvůr, Jaroslavice and Hlohovec) posses the capacity 900 tonnes fish. Fish are supplied not only to the market but also to wholesale for further distribution. Roughly 40 % of the total production are exported to abroad. The biggest customer countries are Slovakia, followed by Austria, Hungary, Italy, France and Germany but fish are exported also to Belgium, England, Poland and others. Fish are sold also in the storage pond facilities. More than 100 t of fish are sold as final price product on storage ponds, during pond harvesting and in temporary stands before Christmas.

The company organisation consists of three fish farms – Velký Dvůr, Hlohovec and Jaroslavice. Another unit is the fish processing facility in Mušov, which is involved also in fishing activities on the Věstonická nádrž reservoir. The administrative centre is located in the Pohořelice town.

The company offers also angling opportunities in the Věstonická nádrž and Těšetice reservoirs, and Výtažník A (in Jaroslavice) and Pístovický rybník ponds. Fish of trophy size are available for angling on Pod mlýnem pond in Sedlec.
